• For all wells, water levels will be measured using a standard measuring
probe before pumping or bailing of the well. Water level measurements will
be made relative to a consistent datum, such as the top of the casing.
Pumping or bailing of the wells will be done to ensure that water standing
in the well bore is removed; thus, representative field readings and water
quality samples can be obtained.
Surface Water, Effluent, and Spoil Spring Monitoring
Surface water monitoring will be conducted to address the quantity and
quality of area stream flows, the discharge from sedimentation control
ponds, and quantity and quality of spoil springs. Surface water will be
monitored in the mine plan and adjacent areas using the sites listed in
Table A, Hydrologic Monitoring Sites, and as described within the NPDES
Permits CO-0027154 and CO-0036021. All of the specified sites are denoted
on Map 4b, Hydrologic Monitoring Program.
Along Foidel and Middle Creeks, the USGS has established two continuous
• stream flow monitoring stations. Station 09243900 is located along Foidel
Creek while Station 09243100 is located on Middle Creek. Both stations are
located upstream of Mine 3. The operation and maintenance of the USGS
stations is planned to continue throughout the life of the mine.
Sampling of the stream sites will be performed an a flexible schedule during
the normal flow period, March through September. Within this time frame,
most of the sites will be measured twelve (12) times for flow and field
parameters and four (4) full suite analyses will be conducted. Measurements
for flow and field parameters will be collected per the following schedule,
field conditions permitting:
March - Monthly
April - Two times during the month
May - Monthly
June - Monthly
July - Monthly
August - Weekly
~ September - First two weeks of the month
MR 90-10 Ex. 15-3 Revised 05/03/90
