II. ALARA Implementation
1. Policy
Gates and Fox subscribe to the "As Low As Reasonably
Achievable" (ALARA) philosophy. There is, therefore,
a management commitment to maintain exposures as far
below regulatory limits as may be practicable.
2. Program
The following will be implemented to assure continuing
management awareness, effectiveness and quality of
the radiation protection program:
2.1 Authority and Responsibilities
The Radiation Protection Officer is vested with
the authority to prevent unsafe practices, and
to halt any process that causes or threatens to
cause overexposures. Concurrently, he is charged
with the responsibility for assuring the quality
of all Radiation Protection activities, and con-
tinuing management cognizance of the radiation
protection program's status.
The Leaching Foreman is vested with the authority
to direct work practices, and to prevent unsafe
employee conduct. Concurrently, he is charged
with the responsibility for assuring that facility
operations are conducted in a safe manner, and
for implementing such remedial measures as di-
rected by the Radiation Protection Officer, or
the Mine Manager.
3
