APPENDIX C <br />SOIL PROFILE DESCRIPTIONS <br />Profile No. 1CW <br />Classification: <br />Series :SARATON <br />Phase :Shallow <br />Location: SE,NW,SW,NE Sec.23, Township 135, Range 91W <br />This is a shallow, well drained (Class 4) loamy soil which occurs <br />on basalt colluvium talus with a slope of 63 percent at an elevation of <br />7150 ft and an aspect of 95 degrees. The soil is formed from basalt <br />boulders, has no outcrops (rockiness class 0), and 15-70% coverage of <br />basalt boulders (stoniness class 4). The soils permeability is moderate <br />(permeability class 4) with rapid runoff (runoff class 4) and no <br />groundwater. Water has caused slight erosion (water erosion class 1) on <br />the soil. The climate is semi-arid. The dominant vegetation is Gambel <br />oak, serviceberry and adapted grasses. <br />A 0-3 inches. Brown (10 YR 4/3) loam, dark brown (7.5 YR 3/2) <br />moist; moderate fine granular primary structure; soft, very <br />friable. slightly sticky and non plastic; non calcareous; non <br />alkaline; non saline; clear smooth boundary. <br />• AC 3-11 inches. Dark brawn (10 YR 313) clay loam, dark brown (10 <br />YR 3/2) moist; moderate medium subangular blocky primary <br />structure; slightly hard, friable, slightly sticky and non <br />plastic; non calcareous; non alkaline; non saline; gradual <br />wavy boundary. <br />C 11+ inches. Dark yellowish brown (10 YR 4/3) silty clay, dark <br />brown (10 YR 3/2) moist; weak, fine subangular blocky primary <br />structure: slightly hard, friable, non sticky and plastic; <br />non calcareous. <br />• <br />9 <br />
