SARATON <br />• This is a shallow to moderately deep, well drained, gravelly loam soil <br />which occurs on side slopes, old terraces and mesas with a slope of 40 to 80X <br />at elevations between 5,800 and 7,000 ft on all aspects. The soil is formed <br />in basalt colluvium and has few outcrops and heavy coverage of basalt <br />boulders. Soil permeability is moderate and available water capacity is low. <br />The hazard of erosion from wind is slight and from water is moderate. Average <br />annual precipitation is about 13 inches, average annual air temperature is <br />about 48 degrees F, and average frost-free season is about 115 days.
