APPENDIX B
•
GENERAL SERIES DESCRIPTIONS
BEENOM
This is a shallow, well drained soil that formed from sandstone and
interbedded shale. Beenom soils are on uplands and mountain sideslopes.
Slopes range from 5 to 60 percent at elevations between 5,800 and 7,000 feet
on all aspects. So11 permeability is moderate and available water capacity is
moderate. The erosion hazard from wind and water is high. Annual
precipitation is about 13 inches, average annual air temperature is 48
degrees F and annual frost-free season is 115 days. The dominant vegetation
consists mainly of big sagebrush, pinyon-,juniper, and western wheatgrass.
Family or higher classification: Loamy, mixed Lithic Argiborrolls
DELSON
This 1s a deep to very deep, well drained loamy soil which occurs on
fans and mesas with a slope of 5 to 80X at elevations between 6,800 and 8,400
ft on all aspects. The soil is formed from basalt colluvlum, has no outcrops
and light to moderate coverage of basalt boulders. Soil permeability is
moderate and available water capacity is high. The hazard of erosion from
wind is slight and from water is moderate. Average annual precipitation is
about 17 inches, average annual air temperature is about 44 degrees F, and
average frost-free season is about 100 days. The dominant vegetation consists
mainly of Gambel oak, serviceberry, big sagebrush and adapted grasses.
Family or higher taxonomic classification: Fine montmorillonitic Typic
Agriborolls
RAZOR
This is a moderately deep to deep, well drained, silty clay loam soil
which occurs on sideslopes and fans with a slope of 5 to 80X at elevations
between 6,000 and 7,000 ft and on all aspects. The soil is formed from
locally transported alluvium derived from shale. It has few outcrops and
light to moderate coverage of basalt boulders. Soil permeability is slow and
available water capacity is moderate. The hazard of erosion from wind is
slight and from water is high. Average annual precipitation is about 14
inches, average annual air temperature is about 46 degrees F, and average
frost-free season 1s about 115 days. The dominant vegetation consists mainly
of Gambel oak, serviceberry, big sagebrush and western wheatgrass.
Family or higher taxonomic classification: Fine, montmorillonitic,
Mesic Ustollic Camborthids
