IT D <br />PLAN <br />C J <br />• <br />u <br />Development (cont.) <br />of the Opera Box Mine for which Cotter Corporation has secure an <br />easement agreement with Union Carbide to utilize. This adit #s 6' x 7' <br />and will be enlarged to 10' x 11' for 600 feet to accomodate {LO-ton <br />rubber-tired haulage equipment. This enlarging of the adit w 11 be done <br />by conventional drill-blast techniques removing rock from the ribs <br />(or sides) and the bottom. Ground support, when necessary, w 11 be <br />with wooden sets and lagging or rock bolts with steel mats. he JD-8 <br />lease block lies at the end of this 600 foot adit. From this point, <br />a conventional 10' x lI' development drift will commence into the <br />ore body. <br />Mining <br />The stoping will begin once development has progressed f r enough <br />so that each stope can be mined by a modified room-and-pillar system. <br />This method is very similar to that presently being used in t e Uravan <br />Mineral Belt, i.e., leaving ore and waste pillars wherever ne essary <br />and installing rock bolts and steel mats for roof support. <br />Bed thickness in some areas will be too thin to carry th full <br />height of the heading, so a method called split shooting will be used, <br />This involves removing the waste first by drilling, blasting, nd <br />mucking, and then repeating the process for the ore. In addit on, a <br />Dosco Continuous Miner will be used in the stoping areas to m ne these <br />-2- <br />
