p~-I-ofoc~ a3, 194P •
Erica Crosby
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street- Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Tellier Gravel Pit Permit Application
Dear Ms. Crosby,

RECEIVED
OCT 2 6 1~~9
DIV. OF MINERALS
8 GEOLOGY
This letter states an additional concern pertaining to information discussed at the informal conference on
Tuesday, October 20, 1998 held in Steamboat Springs relating to the permit for the proposed Tellier Gravel Pit
Operation.
We are extremely concerned about the QUALITY and QUANTITY of our well water during the mining of
gravel at the location adjacent to our property. At the present time and ever since we have lived here, we have
had better than excellent water. We drink our water right from the tap, which is free from any impurities,
discoloration, and sulfw containing odors. We have also never run out of water in all the years we have lived
here (since January of 1988.) We have been able to run the sprinkler, do two loads of laundry, run the
dishwasher and take a shower or bath all within 2 hours and have never run out of water.
We are concerted, that if and when mining commences, ow water quality and/or quality will be affected. If
they mine above the level of ow well, it is possible for water from the mining operation to drain down into ow
well's water supply creating a drastic negative affect on our water quality. If they mine below the level of our
well, it is possible that there will be a reduction in the quantity of water available for use. If they mine above
AND below the level of ow well, the chances that there will be a negative impact on our water quality and
quantity are even greater. (It was discussed at the meeting, if they locate more gravel, they could be allowed to
continue to dig further.)
It is stated that there will be well testing done twice the first year and annually thereafter. This is not adequate
to indicate if the water quality and quantity has been effected. Testing should be done at least twice per year for
the life of the mine. Also, if test results do show that there has been an impact on our quality and quantity of
water and it is required that a new well be drilled, what does ow family do in the meantime, without pure water
to drink and cook with and water to clean and nourish ow surroundings with? There needs to be an alternate
sowce of water supplied to ow home during this time. When the new well is drilled, the quality and quantity of
the new water supply must be at least as high as it is currently.
If you have any further questions concerting this matter, please feel free to contact us. Thank you again for _
yow time.
cerely,~~~
lane E. Anderson
Thane R.
