Mrs. Ruth Gray - 4 - May 18, 1988
(3) The Mine Plan Maps should be revised to more clearly show the locations
of the main access roads, the roads from each pit to the topsoil and
overburden stockpiles, and the proposed permit boundary. It will be
necessary to submit one map which depicts this information for both pit
areas.
Exhibit D - Mining Plan (2.12(4))
The mining plan must address the requirements of Rule 2.12(4). For purposes
of the 112 permit application, it may be advantageous to describe the
operations in each pit as separate phases of operation. An example of a
phased mining approach is that in Phase I you would mine the Hawk Pit while
temporarily stabilizing the Shaffer Pit with a cover crop. In Phase 2 you
would mine the Shaffer Pit while concurrently reclaiming the Hawk Pit. In
Phase 3 you would complete all reclamation tasks at both sites.
~ ~~ (1) Please describe the method of mining to be employed, including methods of
topsoil and overburden removal, method of gravel removal, and the size of
.,the area to be disturbed at any given time.
)l~%".~
,~, /t~ (2) Please submit a timetable to help describe the operation in terms of the
~r estimated period of time required for completion of each phase. If the
phased approach is not used, please describe the sequence of mining
operations in each pit. Wi11 both be mined concurrently or in
sequencel Describe the size and location of each area worked during
each phase of operation. Describe the sequence in which each stage or
phase will be carried out.
f
~
~
,~.t
-,q
~ (3) Please state whether the highwalls at each site will be mined as vertical
(z faces (as they currently exist) or as a sloped face.
Exhibit E - Reclamation Plan (2.12(5))
r` '(1) Given that there may be highwalls at each pit area which may be 30 feet
o in height, please confirm that the post mining land form will have an
average gradient of 5h:ly.

d vi (2) Please specifically state what the slope gradient of the final highwalls
nrl will be upon the completion of reclamation activities.
~
G
S~
c~
~~
r (3) Please address the potential need for creating drainage channels to
minimize soil erosion.

,((, ~.
