Mrs. Ruth Gray - 5 - May 18, 1988
(6) We recommend that, prior to topsoil redistribution, chemical analyses of
~-~•~•' the topsoil be performed to determine if a nutrient deficiency exists.
~~°"~ If a deficiency does exist, a fertilizer amendment mdy enhance the
~:~~ potential for successful revegetation.
(~ iJ ~,
V~' / (7) We recommend that a straw mulch De crimped into the seeded topsoil at a
1, rate of trro tons per acre. It has been our experience that the most
successful revegetation efforts have employed crimped mulch.
(8) The proposed seed mix should be amended to include a~forb~and a shrub.
.~ ~ J Our recommendations would be a vetch and a sage. We actively discourage
p~rro ~a,~ planting yellow sweetclover.
V•i`~ (9) Please provide a timetable for reclamation if either a phased or
~ r~ ~ sequenced mine plan is used. In this timetable please include the amount
Grp `~r,~'~ of acreage which will be in various stages of reclamation upon completion
~~ of mining (example: 7 acres will require highwall reduction, 20 acres
`a~~ will require topsoil replacement, 20 acres will require seeding and
mulching).
Exhibit F - Reclamation Plan Map (2.12(6))
y ~~ (1) Please provide a map of the mine site which portrays the proposed post
lo.,-~t! mining topography. Please use a 5 or 10 foot contour interval. This map
G` ~ ' will be extremely beneficial for both the operator and the Division in
order to evaluate the success of reclamation efforts at this site.
Exhibits G, H, I, J, K - (2.12(7)-(11))
These exhibits are adequate as previously submitted. Please consolidate these
into the single permit application to facilitate the permit review process.
Exhibit L - Reclamation Costs (2.12(12))
The Division will also perform a reclamation cost estimate for this site when
the revisions to the mining and reclamation plans have been submitted. The
Mined Land Reclamation Act requires that the financial warranty be sufficient
to allow the State to perform the reclamation at maximum site disturbance
should an operator vacate the operation.
Exhibits M, N, 0, P
These exhibits are sufficient as previously submitted. Please consolidate
these exhibits into a single permit application to facilitate the permit
review.
i
~ ~ ~ ~" <' /
,.
