F# V~ anA
sa~-i.7+F ~ ~
Revised 9/16/82
n
LJ
along the ridge and northward into the gullies in the center of
Section 7. Walden Coal Company will do several things to lessen
the impact of the proposed mining on the sage grouse.
1) Walden Coal Company will work with the Division of
Wildlife and the MLR staff to determine if it is necessary to
fund research on the sage grouse.
2) Sagebrush seeds will be included in the seeding mixture,
as well as seeds of native forbs, and grasses. See page F-5 for
specific species and quantities.
3) From March 20 to May 20 each year, working hours will be
confined to times between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
4) Between March 20 and May 20 each year no employees,
vehicles or dogs connected with the Bourg mine will enter the
strutting ground.
5) Maximum speed on haul roads will be 30 mph.
6) Buildings and mining activities will be located as far as
• practical from the strutting grounds.
Raptors. Several species of raptors have been sighted
feeding and hunting in the surrounding areas. They include the
Rough-legged Hawk, the Ferruginous Hawk, Swainson's Hawk,
American Restrel, Red-tailed Hawk, and the Golden Eagle.
The power and telephone lines which have been installed on
the Bourg property were constructed in a manner which minimizes
the hazard of electrocution to raptors. If the construction of
additional power lines or other transmission facilities becomes
necessary in the future, they will be constructed according to
the guidelines set forth in Environmental Criteria for Electric
Transmission System and REA Bulletin 61-10, Powerline Contacts by
Eagles and Other Large Birds. Walden Coal Company will provide
the designs of these. facilities to the Division at least sixty
(60) days prior to construction.
• K-2
