S.2 Structures within 200 Feet of the Pipelines
Very few aboveground structures are located within 200 feet of the pipelines. Several
underground natural gas and electric utility lines will be crossed and/or paralleled by
the pipelines for a significant distance.
The two pipelines will be buried at least 4 feet below ground surface, and, in some
cases, the pipeline trench may be 5 to 10 feet deep, e.g., where the proposed pipeline
passes under existing pipelines, roads, or other obstacles. In addition, the affected area
along the pipeline corridor will be reclaimed immediately after pipeline construction.
Therefore, any impacts to man-made structures near the pipelines are likely to be
limited to possible incidents during construction of the pipelines. Pipeline trenches will
be open for only a few days (the estimated average is 5 days) until the pipe has been
placed and backfilling has been completed. Both Rio Blanco County and Garfield
County require separate Special Use Permits specifically for construction of the
pipelines within the respective counties.
We estimate that only structures within 15 feet of the pipelines would have the potential
for impacts. However, we have included all known structures within 200 feet of the
pipelines on Figures C-la through C-lh.
The following structures are within 200 feet of the pipeline right-of-way. A general
description of their location relative to the proposed pipeline corridor is given where
appropriate.
Piceance Creek Crossing The pipelines will be constructed parallel to the
Piceance Site access road and will cross Piceance Creek near the access road crossing
over Piceance Creek. As discussed above, Marathon has granted American Soda a
long-term license for access across Marathon property, and American Soda will be
responsible for long-term maintenance of the bridge.
Roads Several public road and private road crossings will be necessary to
complete construction of the pipelines. Table S-1 provides the details and locations of
these crossings.
S-2
