Western Slope Iron from United, which retained a 100' ROW on the western side for ingress/egress.
At [he northern end of this easement, the access road joins with 15 Road, which intersects US High-
way 50 at an existing channelized intersection at the point that the N-S section line between Sections
11 and 12 meets the Highway. An automatic railroad crossing also exists where 15 Road crosses the
tracks. This intersection is being used by all activities on the refinery property as well as all traffic
from the United property. Map C-2 indicates the location of the haul route from the pit to Highway
50. The road entrance on Highway 50 currently has an acceleration lane to go east but no decelera-
tion lane for trucks entering the property from the east. No accel/decel exists for traffic going west
from the pit and returning. United is working with CDOT to address any additional requirements at
the intersection as part of the Highway Access Permit. Given the maximum production of the site
coupled with available trucks, it is estimated that a peak of 7-S trips per hour will utilize the haul
route at maximum production. Only 24 ton capacity trucks will be used. It is expected that 90% of
the tmcks moving the products off site will be of the belly dump type. In order to control dust, water
will be used on an as needed basis.
6. Mine Facilities
The facility area will be Located on the extreme northwest part of the permit area for the vast major-
ity of the pit life. It will occupy approximately 10.3 acres at this location. Facilities at this Location
will consist of a portable asphalt plant, portable truck scale, portable concrete plant, portable pump-
ing equipment, portable scale house/office [railer and gen-set portable light fixtures in case some
urgent work is needed at night. The portable crushing and screening plant and portable stacker con-
veyors will be located in each mining pit. No topsoil will be stripped from the facilities area since the
amount stored in stockpiles is more than enough to reclaim alt areas that will not be underwater after
reclamation. No night operations are scheduled for the site. All structures on site are shown on Map
C-2. Three tanks for diesel fuel will have a lined basin that is bermed for secondary containment to
contain 110% of the volume of each tank. The list of tanks on the site is given below:
- 10,000 gallon diesel tank that is part of the crushing plant.
- 5,000 gallon diesel tank which is part of the wash plant.
- 2,000 gallon tank which is located near the active pit for fueling mobile equipment.
IS Road Pit 10/02 18
