• • CLIMATE <br />Wind Factors <br />Figure 5 shows the average wind velocity and prevailing direction for each month. The windiest <br />months are in spring. These winds are mainly from the west which is down slope and therefore drying. <br />Velocities are not extreme. <br />During early summer the wind shifts to southeast with a shift back to west in August when the <br />monsoon is strongest. It then shifts back to southeast after the monsoon flow subsides and then back to west <br />as winter arrives. <br />These wind patterns influence the growth environment considerably. When wind is from the <br />southeast it is more humid and precipitation more abundant. West winds, except for monsoonal minds, tend <br />to stress the vegetation, especially in winter, as soils are cold but the air warmer. Thus, unless the wind is <br />from the southeast or westerly monsoonal, the wind would contribute considerably to stress for all plants, <br />but especially evergreen species. <br />Ave. Wind Vel. and Prevail.
