CLIMATE
Percent Possible Sunshine
An important factor in vegetation and climate pattern is the percent possible sunshine. Figure 6
shows chat throughout the year the percent possible sunshine varies from 70% [0 80% with the highest
period occurring in summer. This high sunshine value, especially in summer, contributes to convection
which helps produce thunderstorms. This also causes considerable heat stress for vegetation that lives near
the ground as the soils can become very hot. This high percentage sunshine would also stress the vegetation
by increasing the rate of respiratory and transpiratory processes. Much of the native vegetation ofthis area
exhibits strong adaptation to a sunny, generally dry environment. Thus, revegetation, where moisture is
limiting, should consider using species that are well adapted to intensely sunny environments that are
moderately to severely moisture stressed.
Percent Possible Sunshine
AeNo
~m
~ r .
~ i
i I i
E ~ I ~ ~ ~
~U -1 - _~ - -. ~ ~ _ ~ ,_,
1 ~ ~ - F ~
I
~ - ~ - - ~ L ~ .. -.
1
~ ~ j I
~ to w~ a ~ m L sv M ~ w n~
wo
Figure 6: Percentage of possible sunshine.
Grisenti Farms Gravel Pit Original Application Exhibit K Page G-8
