06025
Mining Method
Banks and Gesso, LLC
Front-end loaders will be used to excavate in place sand and gravel and move it to the
screening and crushing operation. Stacking conveyors are then .used to create product
stockpiles. Front-end loaders are also used to load aggregate products from the
stockpiles into haul trucks. Haul trucks are weighed at an unmanned, electronic scale
located at the bottom of the haul road adjacent to the golf course clubhouse (see Exhibit
C-Z for scale location}.
On-going construction at Granby Ranch occasionally results in small amounts of waste
concrete and asphalt. The applicant wishes to bring this material into the pit for crushing
and re-use (recycling). This activity will be infrequent and involve very small quantities,
and will only accept material generated within Granby Ranch. No stockpiles of any
consequence are anticipated.
Water Diversions and Impoundments
There will be no washing of aggregate products therefore no sediment ponds are
necessary. All stormwater will be contained in the pit due to the configuration of the
mine (see cross section in Exhibit C-2A) except for a small discharge along the access
road. The access road will be graded to divert runoff to a ditch on the east side of the
road. A small culvert at the bottom of the hill will direct runoff under the road into
DeBerard Draw. Sediment control structures will be placed in the ditch and erosion
control material (e.g. riprap) will be placed at the culvert outtall into the Draw. Exhibit C-
2: Mining Plan Map shows the location of the proposed ditch and culvert.
Blasting
Blasting is not expected to regularly occur. However, the applicant is seeking
permission for isolated, infrequent blasting should bedrock ledges be encountered within
the sand and gravel deposit. Any blasted rock would be crushed and processed into
aggregate materials. A qualified, licensed blasting company would be used with a
blasting plan designed to minimize ground vibrations. Blasting chemicals will not be
stored on site.
Granby Realty Holdings, LLC September 25, 2006
Overlook Mine Page 8
