-2-
hen mining below the water table, the potential for ground water
contamination due to fuel and chemical leaks, waste disposal, etc,
can be significant. Provide assurance that the operator will
regulate activities to minimize the potential for ground water
contamination.
6. Will the change in ground water conditions caused by mining this site
adversely affect any vegetation in the area such as cottonwood trees
which depend on present ground water levels for survival? Should
adverse affects occur, how will they be mitigated? The staff
suggests irrigating the affected vegetation during periods of pit
dewatering; i.e. dewater via 6" mainline pipe into cottonwood grove
by opening valve risers.
Exhibit E - Reclamation Plan
If ponds are part of the reclamation plan and wildlife habitat is the
proposed future land use, shorelines should be irregularly shaped to
promote a diverse wildlife habitat. Illustrate on Exhibit F that the
o ponds will have irregularly shaped shorelines.
Provide assurance that the crusher and processing area will be
topsoiled and revegetated with all material piles leveled.
3. The Department of Wildlife recommends that some trees and shrubs
should be used around the pond areas and perimeter of the project,
Please incorporate these suggestions into your reclamation plan by
providing species and planting rates. Contact the Department of
Wildlife for specific recommendations.
4. The following items need to be addressed in the reclamation plan:
~a! t•~ill the entire terrestrial area be graded to slopes not to
exceed 3H:1V?
How will the seedbed be prepared?
c. What is the seeding method?
F~broadcast seeding, you will need to double your seeding rate.
at type of fertilizer will be used and what is the rate of
pplication?
How will weeds be controlled?
Exhibit L - Reclamation Costs
1. Your estimate of reclamation costs appears to be low. Please add the
following items and considerations to your reclamation cost estimate:
