• Normal hours of operation are limited to between 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
• Peak production is estimated not to exceed 200,000 tons per year.
• Hauling of the resource will occur intermittently, year round.
By using the above listed assumptions the following maximum traffic projections can be made:
1. 200 peak daily trips
2. 12 peak loads or 24 peak hourly trips
PETROLEUM STORAGE- There will be no permanent storage of fuel on the site. However, a 10,000
gallon portable diesel fuel tank will be located near the gravel crushing unit when it is present. All fuel will
be stored in above ground steel tanks and will have lined containment dikes to prevent any discharges of
fuel from leaving the site or percolating into the ground. Dikes are to be constructed in a fashion to
contain at least 110 percent of the volume of the largest fuel storage vessel within the containment area.
A policy for the handling and disposal of hazardous waste will be established for the operation. A key
element of the policy will include annual training for all workers at the facility for spill containment and
controls in the event that a spill should occur. Another component of the policy includes notification of
appropriate regulatory agencies when a release of more than 25 gallons of a petroleum product occurs. A
reportable spill of any toxic or hazardous substance (including spill of petroleum products) within the
permit area are reportable to any Division of the Colorado Department of Public Health and the
Environment, the national Response Center, the Colorado Emergency Planning Commission, a local
Emergency Planning Commission, a local Emergency Planning Committee, or the Sate Oil Inspector.
The operator shall notify the Office of a reportable spill within the permit area using the same timeframe
required by the permit, license, notice, Act, Rule or Regulation governing the reporting of the spill to the
appropriate agency. Notice of a reportable spill shall be Faxed to: Minerals Program Supervisor, Division
of Minerals and Geology, FAX (303) 832-8108. The FAX shall include atoll-back number of a
responsible company official for DMG staff to use as a contact.
LIFE OF MINING AREA -Several factors affect the total life of most sand and gravel operations. Most
notable is the surrounding communities' future aggregate needs. Other factors include:
^ Local, State, and Federal Economic Trends
^ Future Local Growth Trends
^ Major Public and Private Improvement Projects -
Rail and Airport Improvements
School Buildings
Governmental Buildings
^ Major Commercial Buildings
Based on the information presented herein, in conjunction with past aggregated needs in the area, it is
forecasted that the gravel will be depleted in about 1 D years. It should be pointed out that forecasts are
based on current and past information. Inherent with any forecast is a degree of uncertainty. A 10 year
life span is a relatively short period of time for a sand and gravel operation such as exists at the 20 Road
Gravel Pit.
