i •
4.6.2.2 Fish and Wildlife Plan
Snowmass Coal Company works closely with the Colorado Division of
Wildlife to evaluate possible adverse effects of the loadout facility
on local wildlife and to establish measures to eliminate or reduce
these effects. Snowmass Coal Company is committed to meeting the
requirements and obligations imposed by the Division of Wildlife.
Three basic areas of concern are addressed as follows.
(1) Water quality and recreational values of the Roaring
Fork River. The design of the loadout facility, as
shown in various sections of this application, has no
• deleterious effects on water quality. Also, current
levels of access by fishermen and other recreationists,
as controlled by the current landowner and various
lessess, are not changed or otherwise affected by the
proposed facility. The conveyor is completely enclosed
where it crosses the river and high enough in the air to
have no effect on ground traffic. Extensive sediment
control measures are discussed elsewhere in this
application. Section 4.6.2.3.
(2) Raptor perch (large tree) located about 1,500 feet north
of the conveyor corridor. Since only a narrow corridor
was needed for construction of the truck dump site, this
tree was not disturbed. No large trees occur in the
corridor and every possible effort was made during
construction to avoid disturbing even small trees.

4-130
