• (3) Protection of game species and enforcement of wildlife
regulations. Snowmass Coal Company establishes and
enforces company policy to encourage all employees to
observe speed limits and exercise care at all time to
prevent road kills while driving. Road kills of large
game or livestock are reported to the company imme-
diately. In addition, the county and haul roads are
checked daily for such evidence. Employees who harrass
or poach wildlife or violate other official regulations
are reported and subject to discipline. ether preven-
tion measures, such as carpooling and increasing load
weights of haul trucks to reduce trip numbers, are being
investigated. As road kill data become available over
the next few years, fencing along portions of the haul
road may be required. Finally, concern regarding
increased urbanization of winter range is essentially
beyond the control of Snowmass Coal Company, as the
• Company has leased only those areas required to build
and operate the loadout facility. As such, these
disturbances are minimal and temporary. No large area
of winter range is taken out of production.
A detailed program of mitigative measures, as outlined
and submitted by the Division of Wildlife to Snowmass
Coal Company, has been accepted and approved by the
Company. In addition, the Company will continue to work
closely with the Division of Wildlife to monitor project
effects on wildlife.
