Page 4-ix lists the acreage necessary for the permanent water treatment system and the
post mining land use of developed water resources.
The treatment pond areas including the long pond, sediment pond P-9 and the access road
are permanent features to support the developed water resources postmining land use.
The No. 1 Mine portal area was regraded and vegetated during late1998. The grading
work was performed in accordance with the contours presented on drawing D-4-15, Final
Reclamation West End of Mine Site and drawing D-2-5, No. 1 Mine Seepage Control and
Treatment Pond Plan.
Material needed to grade the portal area to approximate original contour was obtained from
the fill pile shown on drawing D-2-5. This is the same material which was removed from
the No. 1 Mine portal area when the mine seepage was first discovered in 1988. The
topsoil stockpile located near the portals was utilized in the reclamation project.
In order to maintain the water treatment system, a 36-inch culvert was buried to provide
access to the flooded air shaft. The location of the culvert is shown on drawing D-2-5. The
culvert will be utilized to maintain the 6-inch diameter pipe which conveys the water from
the flooded air shaft to the long pond. If the 6-inch diameter pipe malfunctions for any
reason, a replacement pipe can be installed in the invert of the culvert. To prevent
unauthorized entrance into the culvert, a locked gate or cover was placed over the open
end of the culvert leading to the vent shaft.
u
•
4-73 5/01
