• The earthwork associated with the mine site was done in the summer and fall of 1987
according to reclamation plans revised in the summer of 1987. Major changes in the plan
1o reduce reclamation cost were to establish final contours with a balance of cuts and fills
and to allow amending overburden material for a plant growth medium rather than import
topsoil. Approximately 70,000 cY of material was cut and filled to establish the final grade.
The drainage work included rip-rapping a diversion channel across the site to carry water
collected above the county road, rip rapping the creek banks where the box culvert was
removed, cleaning the sediment pond in the No. I Mine yard and establishing drainage into
the remaining sediment ponds.
The revegetation work for the mine site was done in the fall of 1987. Drill seeding,
fertilizing and crimping straw was done where possible and broadcast seeding fertilizing
and netting straw was done on steeped slopes.
The removal of surface facilities was primarily accomplished by an outside contractor
through a salvage agreement. The salvage agreement produced an income for the prior
Operator, therefore the only demolition expense was removal of flumes in 1986. All
surface facilities were removed by August 1987.
Sealing of mine portals was done in the summers of 1986 and 1987. Seals in the No. 3
Mine and the higher entries of the No. 1 Mine were installed by mine personnel and the
costs are estimated. The water tight seals in the lower entries of the No. 1 Mine were
• installed by an outside contractor. Backfilling against the seals was included in the
earthwork costs.
The majority of the costs in this reclamation cost estimate were actual contract costs with
profit and overhead included. To be consistent with the DMG's Reclamation Cost
Summary Form, an engineering cost estimate is also included. The majority of engineering
costs have been paid to salaried mine personnel and are not known, therefore the
Division's estimate of 6% of the "contract cost" was used.
4-72 Revised June 1998
~N-o3
7~-zo
