Army Corps of Engineers
402 Rood Ave, Room 142
Grand Junction, CO 81501
Re: GPO53 • Flood Damage Repair
Tributary to Munger Creek
Dear Ms. Nall,
As we discussed during our meeting a few weeks ago, Grand Valley Coal Company
• needs to repair damage to a stream channel tributary to Munger Creek. The
damage was the result of an intense thunderstorm on August 5, 1997 that put down
about 2 inches of rain in five hours. The intense flow of storm water in the drainage
dislodged many rocks and boulders from the basin and deposited them in the creek
channel just upstream of a 42 inch culvert under the Munger Canyon Mine access
road. A xerographic copy of a photo of the damage is included in Figure 3.
Grand Valley Coal Company must excavate the deposited material from the creek
channel to allow any flows which may occur to return to the original channel. The
following pages detail the work to be done.
Please contact me if you have questions or if I can be of assistance.
Sincerely,
ohn M. Walters
Manager of Mine Services
•
