frame developed by Esco Associates. Point sitings were
• located along a 50 meter transect stretched out from the
sample point location. The 50 points per transect (one point
at each one meter interval) comprise a single sample unit.
Cover was identified by life form, or as rock, litter, or bare
ground. Life form categories included perennial grasses,
annual grasses, perennial forbs, annual forbs, shrubs, and
noxious weeds. For the purposes of estimating cover, only
first hit data were used.
RESULTS --------------------------------------------
SAMPLE ADEQUACY CALCULATIONS
• Sample adequacy calculations were carried out for total
herbaceous cover and are included in Table 2. The
Snedecor-Cochran sample size adequacy formula was used as
listed on page 15 of the Division's "Guidelines for Compliance
with Land Use and Vegetation Requirements of the Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Board for Coal Mining, October, 1988".
Twelve samples were taken. The sample adequacy calculation
(with 90 % confidence) resulted in a value of 10.2.
Therefore, the reclaimed area was sampled to adequacy.
r~
z
