INTRODUCTION ----------------------------------------------
CJ
On August 8, 1991, the Red Canyon Mine site (Permit
Application C - 81 - 034) was visited and sampled for cover
only. The reclaimed mine surface represents a single sampling
unit and is located within Sections 12 and 13, T 13 S, R 95 W,
6th P.M. The mined surface was reclaimed three years ago in
1988.
The purpose of this study was to determine if the
reclaimed community was progressing in a direction that would
satisfy the vegetative cover success standard. Sampling was
carried out by Matthew S. Hayes.
•
METHODS ---------------------------------------------
Quantitative Sampling - General:
Although sample starting points were chosen to be fairly
evenly spread over the mine site, they were otherwise randomly
placed, therefore following a stratified-random model. The
approximate locations of sample points are designated on the
enclosed map (see Appendix). Cover transects originated from
marked sample locations. A minimum number of ten samples was
agreed upon in consultation with Jim Stover of MINREC, Inc.
Total vegetative cover was sampled using an optical point

1
