• However, since TS 1 is dedicated for reclamation of the temporary bypass
road leading to the existing landfill, and since Montrose County has
requested that the temporary bypass road and TS 1 be retained for their
use, the volume of topsoil in TS 1 is not included in the replaced
topsoil depth calculations.
Stockpiled Topsoil Reserves
All existing (10 total) and proposed (2 total) topsoil stockpile
locations are shown on the enclosed Topsoil Balance Plan, Exhibit 9-3.
There has been no change since October 1983 in the volume of topsoil at
seven stockpile locations (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8). These topsoil
stockpile volumes were determined by IntraSearch, Inc. utilizing
photogrammetric surveying techniques. Topsoil Stockpile 1 is dedicated
to Montrose County for reclaiming portions of either the temporary
by-pass road or the landfill. Stockpiled topsoil and the associated
underlying undisturbed soil from Stockpile 5 was moved by scrapers to
• Stockpile No. 13. Existing topsoil stockpiles 4, 6, and 7 are also
scheduled to be relocated to topsoil stockpile locations 13 or 14 to
accommodate advancing mining activities in Area 1. The soil volumes for
Stockpiles 9, 10, and 13 were calculated from representative cross
sections supplied by the Peabody Engineering Department. The current
topsoil volume for each stockpile is presented in Table 9-3-1.
Existing Disturbance Area
The existing disturbance areas at Nucla Mine are associated with three
separate Colorado mining regulation periods. The old shop area and
existing spoil piles and pits associated with Mine Area 4 (see Exhibit
12-1, Operations Plan) and the eastern half of the new facilities area
are included in Period 1 which extends from July 1, 1969 through July 1,
1976. Topsoil salvage and replacement were not included in the
reclamation plan for these pre-law areas. Period 2 includes existing
post-law (July 1, 1976) disturbance areas at Nucla Mine which fall under
n
U
9-3-6 Revised 07/26/88
