Mndpit designs and calculations for 1.0 foot of fiEeboard have
been previously approved by the ®MG.
~ Water for the drilling operations will be pumped to the drill sites from the North Fork of
the Gunnison using high-pressure hose. Mountain Coall Company, L.L.C. owns water
rights far these water msources.
DRILLING ACTIVI'IIES_
Drilling ar~tvities for the proposed tnethar-e drainage wells will include mobilizing drill
equipment to the sites and drilling and setlivg appxv»mately 40 feet of 16-inch surface
casing into bedrock The holes will be rotary drilled with. a 7-inch diameter hole ib the B-
Seam, then cased with 4 or 5 inch ID steel casing. A depiction of a typical completed
well will be forwarded 6o the CDMG along with the typical phrg and abandorument
i
MONTfORING
Irritiaily, MSHA may require monitoring and inspection of the wells twice daily alter
.installation. It is andicipated the fiegrreaey of moniburing would decrease to a weekly
monitoring and inspection of the installation. Routine maintenaztce will newt to the
exte~ necessary, simulfaneons wilt the weekly monitoring.
PROPOSED DRIi.L HOLE PLUGGING METHODS
In accordance with the Coal Program Guidance Docameat -Methane Drainage and
Monitoring Wells, MCC will plug and abandon these MDWs per DMG Rates 2.05.4 and
4,07.3 at the minimum. A mecbamcal packer will be set at the lowest possible point in
the well (note tbat subsidence damage to the casing may preclude aooess to the entire
depth of tlae casing). Above this parJcer the hole will be plugged with CDMG approved
materials to the bottom of the 5-foot cement surface cap using trtamtouie line. The ixrp 5-
feet of the well below the sub-surface casing ctrl-off point (3-feet below the stArface) will
be plugged with a cement esp. The tap 3-fleet of the casing will then be ctrl off and the
hole filled in with subsoil. A pernnanent marker shall be installed on lop of the plug
identifying the well. Thepad w-ill then be reclaimed to approximate original co~om-.
The Methane Drainage Well and other chilling experience for Motmtein Coal Company
has shown that no aquifers have yet been eocotmtered. However, the procedures
descnbed above would serve to properly protect airy aquifers that would be encountered.
RECLAMATION PLAN
Reclamation of the pad will follow when it is decided by MCC that the drill hole(s) are
trot performing their intended purpose.
