Peabody Coal Catg~any Proposes to leave <br />z~*nY~~++ately a 100-foot buffer of undisturbed lard between the <br />highwall side of an active pit and unpermitted areas during <br />mining operations. Peabody, from experience, believes this <br />distance will be sufficient for protection against slides. If a <br />slide should oaxrr that could have a potential adverse effect on <br />public property, health, safety, or the envirornnent, Peabody <br />will notify the Division by the fastest available means and <br />canply with remedial ~++~a~~res as approved by the Division. <br />Chavez Slide Monitoring Schedule. As a result of the landslide <br />that has progressed to the edge of our disturbance bourrlary near <br />the northerrmnst tip of the Wolf Creek pit area, the following <br />prooedin-es will be conducted to evaluate if the slide has <br />affected the stability of the reclaimed lands in this area. <br />1. Visually inspect the condition of the top of the ridge and <br />the slide on a bi~kly basis. Any sukstantial movement <br />will be reported to the CGMG. <br />2. A set of Slope Stability Monitoring points will be <br />established at the top of the ridge and back away from the <br />ridge in the reclaimed land. Zhese points will be surveyed <br />monthly, weather permitting, starting in October 1994. <br />Horizontal arxi vertical movement will be monitored for a <br />year. <br />. 3.
