4.14.2(4) Steep Slopes. Peabody Opal Oompany does not corrhlct surface •
coal mining operations on steep slopes as defined in the
regulations.
2.05.4(2) Final GYading aril GYaded Surface Preparation. Proper grading
4.06.4(1) will restore a diverse topography similar in appearance to the
4.14.2(5) praminina topography (see FSdiibit 12-9 Postrnine Contour Map).
Hackfilling, grading aryl graded surface preparation will be
performed in a manner that reduces subsidence, slippage or
mass wasting of slopes. Where potential slippage problem
areas or excessive amg~action problems are identified that may
affect vegetative development, the regraded spoil will be
ripped on the contour prior to topsoil replacement. Surface
preparation operations, will be done along the contour to
minimize erosion ar)3 maximize the effectiveness of the
treatment. If operations on steeper slopes present safety
problems to operators, then grading will be done in a
direction other than generally parallel to the contour.
4.05.4 E~ahemeral Stream Channels. On F7d~ibit 12-9, Postmine Contour
4.14 Map, is the location of several of the major ephemeral stream
channels that drain into the Wadge Tmrrvinr7rmnt, 'j}~e Q.[[,~
requested additional information be provided on the
restoration of posGaine drainages. Much of the dist~bance at
the Seneca II Mine has progressed over a period of years; such
that, different portions of the drainage channels are in
different stages of disturbance or reclamation during the life
of mine. This mine disturbance acts as a retardant during the
active mining years by providing a longer path for the
drainage and reducirg the peak of the inflow hydrographs. All
control structures were designed for worst case oorxiitions as
specified in CMLRB's Regulations. 'thus, all calimr~.+t control
structures are designed for the peak flows in the premine or
postmine condition.
12-58 Revised 8/27/86 •
