State Req.
~e majority of the reclamation grading work is performed with
• dozers aryl motor graders. In scone cases grading may be done
with scrapers and draglines. All areas affected by surface opal
mining operations, except as specifically exempted by the Q+IIRB,
will be returned to their an=*ry»te original contours. Zhis
includes the drainage channels which were returned to
approximate original locations to help maintain appropriate
downstream water rights.
Included with this information are F]diibits 12-9a through 12-9e
which omnpares the preminirxJ and posGnirie ephemeral stream
channel profiles. shown on these profiles is the similarity
between the prem;n;m and ptxtm;n;m profiles as required in
Section 4.14.2.1.
Peabody Coal Cmig~any has included in the postmine grading
operation the use of very small swales to minimize erosion and
to conserve soil moisture and promote vegetation. Stock tanks
• will be utilized in the postmine grading operations to minimize
erosion and provide water for livestock and wildlife. See
Arrma,vl;x 13-9 for design information. These very small swales
do not interfere with attempts to maintain the most efficient
slopes in the postmine grading areas. Also, attempted is the
reestablishment of drainage charu~els to their original natural
meandering pattern to minimize erosion, to conserve soil
moisture and promote vegetation. All postmine drainage channels
are mulched and revegetated as soon after topsoil placemes~t as
is practical and the appropriate growing season occurs. After
the vegetation has been established, each drainage area is
monitored by a reclamation specialist for areas requiring
augmented revegetation until natural revegetation occurs.
4.14.3 (1) OOVIIt~IG COAI, AND ACID- AND ~XIC-FORMING ~+'~TAT S
Cover. Peabody Coal Cca[g~any will cover, with a minurnun of 4
• feet of the best available material, all exposed coal seams
12-59 Revised 11/28/90
