Topsoil Segregation
• Prior to the commencement of mining and the construction of
shop facilities and other structures, all available material re-
sembling topsoil (able to support plant life) on the affected area
z
will be removed to a depth of 6 to 19 inches, depending upon
availability, and stockpiled. (See location on Exhibit C-2)
The piles will be protected from erosion damage by placing them as
far as possible from known drainageways. They will be handsown with
the following mixture as soon as possible:
Species Lbs.pls/A
Western wheatgrass 6
Russian wildrye 6
Yellow s~veetclover 1
• 1'laste Dump and Surface Facilities
All shop buildings, offices, and other structures, equipment
storage, etc., will be removed after the closing of the mine.
The portal will be sealed, either temporarily or permanently,
pending final approval by the Department of Energy.
The compacted area will be scarified. The waste dump will be
contoured to a reasonable grade, so as to blend in with the surroun-
ding terrain and allow plant growth. The vertical to horizontal
ratio will be no steeper than 2:1.
Soil that has been stockpiled will be spread over this area in
the greatest depth that the amount of material stored will permit.
The more finely textured waste material may also be used as a medium
for plant growth if topsoil is lacking. Total depth of the
. growing media will be in the range of 2 to 9 inches.
