UPLAND GRAVEL PIT NO. 3
EXHIBIT D
MINING PLAN
6.) MINE PLAN:
The (112) permit extraction operation will be within an excavation limit boundary, which
contain 42.1 acres of land. An additional 2.5 acres shall be occupied by the improved
gravel haul road outside the excavation limit boundary.
A minimum of 30 foot set-backs from adjoining property lines and 1:1 slopes from the
excavation limits will be maintained.
The mine plan anticipates removal of the construction materials down to the Mancos
Shale contact line. Top soil and unmarketable material will be laid back over the
disturbed area at a maximum of 3:1 slope and re-seeded with the exception of the 3.0+
acre processing, stock piles and office area which will remain un-reclaimed until the end
of the pit life.
All the PHASES contain commercially viable alluvia! deposits of sand and gravel
material originating from and along ancient stream beds overlying Mancos shale
deposits.
Life expectancy of the pit is 20 to 30 years based on production of 40,000 - 60,000
Ton/year. For purposes of the Mining Plan and Reclamation Plan annual yield of 60,000
ton shall continue for 22 years and reclamation shall continue for an additional 2 years.
Mining shall disturb an estimated 1,325,000 cubic yards of material consisting of 7%
topsoil, 23% overburden and 70% gravel. Based on the six (ti) test pits, the deposit is
expected to average 22 feet thick and consists of top soil 1-2 feet thick, overburden of
(white /3< yellow dirt) 3 - 5 feet thick -Sand and gravel (1"-8" aggregate) deposit 14 -18
feet thick.
Waste products in varying amounts from the crusher will be dispersed along with
overburden during reclamation.
The mining plan has been laid out (See Exhibit C) in eleven (11) Phases of two year
duration. Each year has been divided into approximate two acre Blocks to clearly
identify the mining and reclamation activity. For example, topsoil from Block 5 is placed
on Block 3 and re-vegetated. Overburden from Block 5 is placed on Block 4 and shaped
to maximum 3:1 slopes. All gravel from Block 5 is mined out except for access road to
future Blocks. Block 6 topsoil is placed on Block 4 and re-vegetated -and so on.
The gravel and overburden shall be removed by the use of track excavators and wheel
loaders to the perimeter of the excavation limits determined by BLM and established by
survey.
No more than 6 acres excavation area and 3 acres processing/ stockpile area will be un-
reclaimed at any one time. Therefore, bonding of 11.5 acres is expected to cover the
excavation area, processing site and haul road. Replacement and re-vegetation of top
soil shall be in 2 acre intervals within 6 months of completion of excavation and shall be
guaranteed for three years or until firmly established.
2
