• ADEL VARIANT - (3) Taxonomic Class: Fine-loamy, mixed Pachic Cryoborolls. Oi 1-0" -- Undecomposed and partially decomposed organic material - mostly fescue. Al 0-15" -- Very dark grayish brown (lOYR 3/2, moist) loam; strong medium blocks; friable, nonsticky, plastic; few medium and coarse roots, many fine; slightly acid, pH 6.1; gradual wavy boundary. A2 15-24" -- Very dark grayish brown (lOYR 3/2, moist) loam; moderate coarse blocky structure; friable, slightly sticky, plastic; few fine and medium roots, common coarse; neutral, pH 6.6; clear smooth boundary. Ckl 24-36" -- Light olive brown (2.5Y 5/3, moist) loam; massive; friable, slightly sticky, plastic; few fine and medium roots; violently effervescent; moderately alkaline, pH 8.1; gradual smooth boundary. Ck2 36-43" -- Dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2, moist) sandy loam; massive; friable, slightly sticky, plastic; few fine and coarse roots; violently effervescent; moderately alkaline, pH 8.1; gradual smooth boundary. C1 43-55" -- Dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2, moist) sandy loam; iron stains • (1.5YR 5/6) throughout the matrix; massive; very friable, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; few fine roots; strongly effervescent; moderately alkaline, pH 8.1; gradual wavy boundary. C2 55-60" -- Dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2, moist) loamy sand; iron stains (7.5YR 4/4) throughout the matrix; massive; very friable, nonsticky, non- elastic; few fine roots; slightly effervescent; mildly alkaline, pH 7.7. Sampling Location (Typical Pdeon): Twentymile Coal Company's Foidel Creek permit area, sample site #5. NW 1/4, SW 1/4, SE 1/4, Section 16, T5N, R86W, Routt County, Colroado. Range in Characteristics: Thickness of the A horizon ranges from 16 to 30 inches. Textures in the 10 to 40 inch control section range from looms to sandy looms and clay looms. Drainage and Permeability: Moderately well drained; moderate permeability. Depth to Water Table: 85 inches on August 1, 1984. • Ex. 15-5
