• UNNAMED CLAY LOAM - (3) <br />Taxonomic Class: Fine-silty, mixed Pachic Cryoborolls. <br />Oi 2-0" -- Undecomposed and partially decomposed organic material. mostly <br />rushes, sedges and water-tolerant grasses. <br />A 0-20" -- Very dark gray (lOYR 3/1, moist) clay loam; strong coarse blocks; <br />firm slightly sticky, very plastic; few fine and coarse roots, many medium; <br />medium acid, pH 6.0; clear wavy boundary. <br />Bw 20-31" -- Dark grayish brown (lOYR 4/2, moist) loam; weak coarse blocky <br />structure; friable, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; few fine and common <br />medium roots; lime threads along root channels; slightly effervescent; <br />moderately alkaline, pH 7.9; gradual wavy boundary. <br />C 31-38" -- Dark gray (lOYR 4/1, moist) loam; few fine faint datk brown (lOYR <br />4/3) mottles; massive, friable, slightly sticky, plastic, few fine and medium <br />roots; strongly effervescent; moderately alkaline, pH 8.0; clear wavy <br />boundary. <br />C 38-44" -- Dark grayish brown (lOYR 4/2, moist) sandy loam; common medium <br />faint dark yellowish brown (lOYR 4/4) mottles; massive; very friable, non- <br />sticky, nonplastic; few fine and coarse roots; slightly effervescent; <br />. moderately alkaline, pH 8.0; gradual wavy boundary. <br />Cg 44-60" -- Gray (lOYR 5/1, moist) sandy loam stratified with silty clay <br />loam; few coarse distinct strong brown (7.5YR 4/6) mottles; massive; very <br />friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; slightly effervescent; mildly alkaline, <br />pH 7.8. <br />Sampling Location (Typical Pedon): Twentymile Coal Company's Foidel Creek <br />permit area, Sample site #4. NW 1/4, SW 1/4, SW 1/4, Section 16, T5N, R86W, <br />Routt County, Colorado. <br />Range in Characteristics: Thickness of the A horizon ranges fron 16 to <br />30 inches. Textures in the 10 to 40 inch control section range from clay <br />loams to loams to sandy loams. Sand coarser than very fine sand averages less <br />than 15%. <br />Drainage and Permeability: Moderately well drained; moderately slow <br />permeability. <br />Depth to water Table: 68 inches on August 1, 1984. <br />u <br />Ex. 15-4 <br />
