• UNNAMED CLAY LOAM - (3) Taxonomic Class: Fine-silty, mixed Pachic Cryoborolls. Oi 2-0" -- Undecomposed and partially decomposed organic material. mostly rushes, sedges and water-tolerant grasses. A 0-20" -- Very dark gray (lOYR 3/1, moist) clay loam; strong coarse blocks; firm slightly sticky, very plastic; few fine and coarse roots, many medium; medium acid, pH 6.0; clear wavy boundary. Bw 20-31" -- Dark grayish brown (lOYR 4/2, moist) loam; weak coarse blocky structure; friable, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; few fine and common medium roots; lime threads along root channels; slightly effervescent; moderately alkaline, pH 7.9; gradual wavy boundary. C 31-38" -- Dark gray (lOYR 4/1, moist) loam; few fine faint datk brown (lOYR 4/3) mottles; massive, friable, slightly sticky, plastic, few fine and medium roots; strongly effervescent; moderately alkaline, pH 8.0; clear wavy boundary. C 38-44" -- Dark grayish brown (lOYR 4/2, moist) sandy loam; common medium faint dark yellowish brown (lOYR 4/4) mottles; massive; very friable, non- sticky, nonplastic; few fine and coarse roots; slightly effervescent; . moderately alkaline, pH 8.0; gradual wavy boundary. Cg 44-60" -- Gray (lOYR 5/1, moist) sandy loam stratified with silty clay loam; few coarse distinct strong brown (7.5YR 4/6) mottles; massive; very friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; slightly effervescent; mildly alkaline, pH 7.8. Sampling Location (Typical Pedon): Twentymile Coal Company's Foidel Creek permit area, Sample site #4. NW 1/4, SW 1/4, SW 1/4, Section 16, T5N, R86W, Routt County, Colorado. Range in Characteristics: Thickness of the A horizon ranges fron 16 to 30 inches. Textures in the 10 to 40 inch control section range from clay loams to loams to sandy loams. Sand coarser than very fine sand averages less than 15%. Drainage and Permeability: Moderately well drained; moderately slow permeability. Depth to water Table: 68 inches on August 1, 1984. u Ex. 15-4
