• Ran a in Characteristics: Depth to accumulated segregated gypsum ranges from
8 to 5 inches. lie mean annual soib temperature is 42 to 46 F. The average
summer soil temperature is 60° to 65 F. The major surface textures when mixed
to depth of 7 inches are loam, clay loam, silty clay or clay. Rock fragments
throughout the profile range from 0 to 15 percent.
The Al horizon, where present, has hue of 2.5Y or lOYR, value of 5 or 6 dry, 3
or 4 moist, and is usually less than 2 inches thick.
The A2 horizon has hue of 2.5Y or lOYR, value of 6 or 7 dry and chroma of 1
through 3.
The Bt horizon has hue of 2.5Y or lOYR, value of 4 through 6 dry, and chroma of
1 through 3. It is clay loam, clay or silty clay and has 35 to 60 percent
clay. This horizon has moderate or strong columnar or prismatic structure.
It ranges from noncalcareous to calcareous with few threads of lime or gypsum
and is mildly to very strongly alkaline. The EC mmhos/cm ranges from 8 to 15.
The ESP ranges from 20 to 50 percent.
The C horizon is heavy clay loam or clay, has 35 to 50 percent clay, is
moderately or very strongly alkaline (pH 8.5 to 9.2) and has common to many
masses of segregated gypsum and sodium sulfate. Lime is disseminated or
occurs as fine masses and thread. The ESP ranges from 25 to 50 within a depth
of 40 inches. The EC mmhos/cm ranges from 10 to 30. Some pedons have thin
lenses of lighter textured material in the lower part of the C horizon.'
• Drainage and Permeability: Poorly drained; slow permeability.
Depth to Water Table: Greater than 40 inches.
•
Ex. 15-10
