Introduction
The water quality assessment (WQA) of Fish Creek neaz the Twentymile Coal Company was
conducted for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), Water Quality
Control Division (WQCD). The WQA was prepazed to facilitate issuance ofthe Colorado Dischazge
Permit System (CDPS) permit for the Twentymile Coal Company, CDPS Permit No. 000042161,
and is intended to determine the assimilative capacities available to the Twentymile Coal Company
for pollutants found to be of concern.
Figure A-1 on the following page contains a map of the study area evaluated as part of this WQA.
Fish Creek flows through a heavily coal-mined region in the mountainous azeas of the State. The
character of the receiving waters is influenced by previously and actively mined azeas surrounding
the site and the arid climate of the region.
This WQA addresses the Twentymile Coal Company combined surface water and mine water
discharges from Outfall 001. Additionally, the contributions by the Seneca Coal Company
(000000221) and Fish Creek Tipple (000036684) to Fish Creek at locations downstream were
evaluated when determining the assimilative capacity available to this facility.
•
Appendix A Page 1 of 12
