RECLAh1ATI0N PLAid
• Plan 7
The Plan consists basically of three phases:
1. Site preparation: backfilling, grading, dozing, ripping,
plant media application at 15-35cm depth, manure applications
(at various rates the first few years until comparisons are
made of seedling vigor) mulch applications, (different types
and rates)---One field season.
2. Seedling and native transplanting: two field seasons, in-
cluding mulch applications and systems maintenance.
3• Systems maintenance, including weeding, fertilizer applica-
tions if needed, remulching, watering---two field seasons after
inital transplanting. Systems maintenance experimentation will
involve the operation of a drip irrigation system on one-fourth
to one-third of the first season transplants, so that survival
rates and seedling vigor can be compared with the increased cost
of operation of such a system.
This mode should result in a self-sustaining vegetative cover on the
affected land within the fourth or fifth year after reclamation efforts
• commence. All three phases of the plan will be in effect in some area of
the mine at any given time after 1980, enabling data accumulation to im-
prove reclamation techniques and reduce costs as the program continues.
In May, 1977, more than 700 yards of manure was hauled to the mine site.
Along with dozer work the preceeding months, this initiates phase one of
the Plan in two areas, Dagazine Hill and Gillespie Hill (see Plan Time-
table). The following is a list of acreages in each area: Location may
be found by reference to the hfine Plan Map or the Reclamation Plan Map,
Exhibits C and F.
Gillespie Hill 14.1 acres
Magazine Hill 17.0 acres
Senatore Hill 10.7 acres
Gold Hill 13.0 acres
Copper Hill 25.0 acres
Roads, Shop Area, Ect. 13.9 acres
• Total Affected Land 93.7 acres
