C~
•
..
RECLAMATION PLAN
Plan 5
Preferred schrub species to be transplanted or purchased from CSU, if and
when available, will include:
true mountain mahogany
rubber rabbitbrush
douglas rabbitbrush
skunkbush sumac
gambels oak
(Cercocarpus montanus)
(Chrysothamnus nauseousus)
(Chrysothamnus nauseosus)
(Rhus trilobata)
(Quercus gamgell)
The following peeferred species will be introduced via "clump transplanting"
to reclaimed sited, although actual seeding of grasses to tree areas will
be minimal in order to reduce grassland competition with young tree seedlings.
For seeding of "mined" topsoil areas, a mixture of the following species will
be sawn at a rate of 4tAfFper acre, utilizing conventional seeding techniques.
Russian wildrye
Sand dropseed
Indian ricegrass
Crested Wheatgrass
Blue grams
Yellow sweetclover
Fourwing saltbush
Western Wheatgrass
All of the above are available from Sharp Bros. Seed Co., Healy, Kansas 67850.
A fall planting is under consideration for the above grass mixtures as is
the schedule for attempted transplanting of evergreens found in other areas
of mine land. Applications of inorganic fertilizers or manure may be
necessary, should soil analysis show deficiencies after topsoil "mining"
Manure would be applied at a rate of 15 tons per acre, subject to change.
.r.
