REVEGETATION PLAN
• The major change to the revegetation plan is the elimination of
mulching as approved May 16, 1485. All reference to annual cereal
grains and straw or hay mulches is no longer applicable. All seeding
will be done with permanent seed mixtures.
As described in the soil stabilization plan, drill seeding will be
preceded by chisel plowing and followed by contour furrowing. All
topsoil laid down during the summer and fall, prior to major snowfall
or freezeup of topsoil, will be seeded. In the event of winter
topsoiling under conditions which prevent seeding, contour furrows will
be installed. Chisel plowing and seeding will then be implemented
during the first normal planting season when weather and soil moisture
conditions allow.
The topsoil plan previously described will determine the revegetation
or seeding schedule.
• Seed will be drill seeded with a heavy duty rangeland drill pulled by a
rubber-tired farm tractor. One exception is aerial seeding on steep
slopes as approved December 6, 1982 and January 7, 1986. Seeding will
be done on the contour except as otherwise provided. The rangeland
seed mix, Permit Renewal Table 8, will be divided into three separate
submixes. These three mixes will then be seeded in alternating rows in
order to reduce competition and allow establishment of shrubs and less
competitive forbs. The three mixes will be as follows: 1) grasses,
alfalfa, and titer milkvetch, 2) remaining forbs, and 3) shrubs.
Seeding along permanent gullies or channels is also dune perpendicular
to the contour. This was discussed with CMLRD during their inspection
of May 15, 1986. This is necessary because of the long narrow strips
of topsoil which are disturbed along side permanent channels during
their construction. These strips of topsoil cannot be practically
drilled seeded in any other manner. Care will be taken during
construction of contour furrows in these areas.
•
Permit Renewal 780-117-1 Revised 03/30/87
