' El{HIBIT E (Cont'd)
' adjacent properties can occur. The hillock will be planted
and graded to minimize erosion and to confine runoff to
' Valco's property. No toxic or acid-forming material will
be encountered or used in the operation. This open pit opera-
' tion has no drill holes, auger holes, addits or shafts. As
' shown on map Exhibit F, sloped areas will be regraded to
3 to 1 from five feet above the water line to ten feet below
' the water line. Other slopes will be regraded to 2 to 1 as
required.
' Topsoil is to be preserved and protected in stockpiles
' and returned to the areas to be revegetated during seedbed
preparation.
' No water is being used in the reclamation operation.
The water removed from the pit area when the sand and gravel
is removed is allowed to drain back into the pit. Evaporation
is minimal. Most of the soil and o verburden removed from
'
the pit area is returned to th e pit as refill material.
Irrigation of the land is being reduced as mining proceeds.
Trees, shrubs and grass would benefit from one season of
' watering, but even if this is done, the amount of water
' applied would not approach that used in the past. The
operator's intention is to minimize disturbances to the pre-
' vailing hydrologic balance of the affected land and of the
surrounding area and to the quality and quantity of water in
1
' 11
