Spill containment in the mill is controlled by a
collection sump built into the concrete floor at the lower
end of the mill.
Before tailings are discharged into the tailings
disposal area, the slurry will be tabled after flotation to
remove pyrite. Pyrite, like the magnetite, will be marketed
as a by-product.
Tailings will be maintained at an alkaline state
throughout the flotation process and will be discharged into
the tailings disposal area at or about a pH of 7.5 to 9.0.
Mineral concentrates will be filtered and sold to
smelters or other ore buyers.
The mill is designed with a nominal capacity of 125
tons per day. It is our intent to furnish most of the mill
feed from the Hopemore Shaft, but we plan to utilize any
excess mill capacity_to treat odes from other mining
companies on a custom fee milling basis. In addition to
possible additional revenue, we believe this service will
benefit the mining industry in Colorado. However, only ores
which are amenable to our milling process, and which will
not create any problems economically, physically or
environmentally, will be considered.
It is our intent to begin milling about April 30, 1990,
with an estimated duration of life of approximately 12
years.
