Section 785.19 (c) Continued.
Unconsolidated stream-laid deposits in the Canadian River flood-
plain were mapped within the boundaries of the general area shown
on Figure 34, Kerr Hydrology General Area. Information from the
Preliminary Geologic Map of the Gould Quadrangle, .North Park,
Jackson County, Colorado (Kinney, 1970) was used together with
field reconnaissance to map the unconsolidated stzeam-laid deposits
shown on Map 5, North Park Hydrology.
I •
Unconsolidated stream-laid deposits in the mine plan and adjacent
area were mapped in detail by field checking the aurficial geology
shown on Map 6, Kerr Mine Area Geology, and digging backhoe pits to
determine the lithology of the stream-laid deposits. In addition,
the low-lying areas which contain alluvial deposits were field
checked to varify the existence or non-existence of stream channels
meeting the definition of "unconsolidated stream-laid deposits
holding streams" in 30 CFR 701.5. Stream-laid deposits were found
in the ephemeral drainages in the mine plan and adjacent area;
however, these drainages do not contain stream channels meeting the
above definition, and so the deposits in the ephemeral drainages
were not mapped. Unconsolidated stream-laid deposits holding
streams were mapped in the intermittent draws traversing the mine
plan and adjacent area. As shown on Map 16, the intermittent
drainages are Bolton Draw, Bush Draw, Williams Draw and Sudduth
Draw. These drainages are discussed below.
Bolton Draw is an intermittent stream valley which drains 6.8
square miles. Stream-laid deposits were found in the lower reach
of the draw along a narrow floodplain approximately 500 feet wide.
These deposits appear as fine sand and clay at the surface, and
extend as a continuous deposit from the pond at the north line of
Section 11, TSN, R78W, to the confluence with the Canadian River in
Section 31, TSN, R77W.

785-8
