04021 Banks and Gesso, LLC
Water Diversions and Impoundments
The entire site will be graded to direct stormwater runoff towards interior ditches and
dewatering systems. A CDPS permit will be obtained from the Colorado Department of
Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) prior to discharge of groundwater.
A slurry wall will be constructed around the perimeter of the Phases 2 and 3 prior to
commencement of mining below the water table. This will seal the mine area,
preventing infiltration of groundwater. Once the initial groundwater quantities within
each mine area are pumped out, continued dewatering will not be required except on an
as-needed basis after significant weather events.
Description of Overburden, Deposit and Underlyinp Stratum
Approximately 2'/2 feet of overburden (including 6-12 inches of topsoil) will be removed
from the mine areas and stockpiled for plant-growth material in surface reclamation or
used as backfill for the pit slopes. An average thickness of approximately 25 feet of
sand and gravel exists across the mine area.
Primary and Secondary Commodities
The primary commodity to be extracted is alluvial sand and gravel. It will be processed
and used internally or sold as construction aggregate. No secondary commodities are
expected.
Incidental Products
It is not anticipated that there will be any incidental products as a result of this proposed
mining operation.
Explosives
Explosives will not be used at this operation.
Asphalt Paving Company October 11, 2005
Wattenberg West Sand and Gravel Mine Page 10
