J

~:

b) Soil unit 33, Tisworth fine sandy loam, 0-5 percent slopes.
This is a well-drained soil formed in alluvium on alluvial fans. The
Surface layer is .a sandy loam about 3 inches thick. The subsoil is
loam to sandy loam about 13 inches thick. The upper 8 inches of the
substratum is a loam, while the lower portion is gravelly loam. This
soil is rated as poor for topsoil, due to excessive sodium. The erosion
hazard is slight, with a slow runoff.
Soils other than those mapped and described, may occur within the soil
mapping unit boundaries, as inclusions. Both of these above soils, have
a shallow surface layer and are poorly suited as topsoil material for
_ reclamation. The average annual precipitation of this site is quite low
and will present limitations for vegetation establishment. The precipitation
_ averages 12 to 14 inches a year. _ -- _ _. _; ...__. _ ___-
Exhibit J - Vegetation Information - _
following is a description of the vegetation present on these two soil units:
a) On soil unit S,E, the plant community is a pinion-juniper, grass,
_ shrub mixture. The site is predominated by Western Wheat and Indian
Rice Grasses. Rat~bitbrush and sage brush are interspersed with the
- 'grass. Lheatgrass, and other annuals are quite numerous on the sites.
This soil unit ha s• very steep slopes, with rock outcrops occurring
Within the unit, and the vegetation is sparsely distributed.
b) On soil unit 33, the site is dominated almost exclusively by
greasewood and cheatgrass. Numerous anriuals occur in small amounts.
This site presently produces very little forage annually. The grease-
wood stand is very dense. -
~ - - - -
-.

Following are seeding recommendations, for revegetating the disturbed stock
pile area primarily, and for limited use on the steep sloped pit area:
- 1) Grass Seeding Mixture
Broadcasted Rate lbs.
-- Species Variety Pure Live Seed/Ac.
Streambank wheatgrass Sodar
Indian ricegrass Paloma
Russian wild rye Vinall
Total
7.0 -
8.0
6.0
21.0 lbs.
