~~ ESPEY, HUSTON b ASSOCIATES, INC.
to wazn against access and to identify the hazazdous nature of the opening. Such
gates will be systematically inspected and will be maintained in good condition.
Upon abandonment, each entry mill have a seal placed within the entry
and adjacent to the surface. This seal, constructed according to MSHA require-
ments, will be of a permanent nature to prevent access by people and animals and
will be impermeable to prevent flow of water from the mine. The sealed mine entry
will then be backfilled and reclaimed at the surface.
• See Insert Page L1-3a
2.2 PREPARATION FOR BACKFILLING
After mining has ceased, all drill holes and adits will be sealed and
covered in accordance with accepted procedures and all buildings will be dismantled
and removed. All footings will be dismantled and removed or buried at least 1 foot
below the final regraded spoil surface. Should coal debris have accumulated in azeas
oa the mine bench surface, it will be scraped together and hauled to an approved
refuse disposal azea. Since no toxic sediments aze anticipated in the sediment pond,
no special treatment is planned for the pond. It will be left as a stock pond, as per
pre-existing design. Culverts in place during mining will be removed prior to
regrading. Diversion ditches will also be removed as pazt of regrading. The
reclaimed azea should be adequately protected from erosion by the erosion control
blanket discussed below.
Any refuse or other undesirable material that may have resulted from
the mining operation will be removed to an approved public refuse disposal area.
Likewise, during construction, any woody vegetation not large enough for firewood
will be removed to an approved disposal area.
Prepazation for backfilling will begin as soon as mine operations cease
and drill holes and adits aze sealed as specified above.
M-3
