C~ ESPEY, HUSTON & ASSOCIATES, INC.
• During the regrading, most of the material will be pushed more or less
straight upslope. The bulldozer cleat mazks will end up on the contour and will be
important in retarding surface erosion. Surface relief will be 2 to 4 inches to ensure
good adhesion of subsequently applied topsoil. In the unlikely event that residual
roughness and cleat marks are not sufficient to produce 2 to 4 inches of surface
relief, the slopes will be ripped. The packing action of the bulldozer tracks during
regrading is expected to adequately compact the regraded material.
The regrading process will also result in elimination of the cut above the
mine bench. The facilities azea below the mine bench will be regraded as necessary
to achieve the original contours which will be almost unchanged by construction and
operation. Drainage through the area will be unimpeded after facility removal and
regrading.
In azeas where no grading to reestablish contours is necessary, such as
the equipment storage area and much of the haul road, the compacted surface will
be ripped, to improve permeability, before topsoil is applied.
the backfilling and grading at the Northern #1 Mine was completed
by Auqust, 1986. All work was completed as designed The channel
was completed without problems and developed significant
vegetation wihin 2 weeks after allowing the water to enter. The
design for the channel is given in the following section.
A professional land surveyor's post mining topography map is
included in Exhibit M-3 of this section.
