i:ti+. <br />> ~:~{: <br />• <br />When installing supports, the first support shall be set <br />no more than five feet from a permanent roof support and <br />the rib. All supports shall be set so that the person <br />installing the supports remains between the support <br />being set and two other forms of supports. Other forms <br />of supports include permanent or temporary supports, and <br />coal rib or face. The support being installed shall be <br />no more than five feet from any of these other forms of <br />support. Cach support being installed shall be com- <br />pletely installed prior to proceeding further inby the <br />last row of permanent roof support to install the next <br />support. <br />Once all supports have been installed, all work or tra- <br />vel beyond the last row of permanent roof support shall <br />be done between the set support. <br />Upon completion of the repair of the continuous miner, <br />the installed supports shall be removed beginning with <br />the farthest inby placed support proceeding outby to- <br />wards the last row of permanent support. <br />One support shall be removed at a time. Prior to the <br />removal of each and all of the set support, the roof <br />• shall be visually observed for roof competency. IE no <br />hazardous conditions are disclosed during the visual <br />examination, a sound and vibration roof test, or other <br />equivalent test, shall be made, where the mining height <br />permits, where the supports have been installed. <br />Supports may be removed remotely without performing roof <br />examinations. No person shall be located inby the last <br />row of permanent support during the removal procedure. <br />7. On haulageways, all crossbars or beams shall be install- <br />ed with a means of support that will prevent the cross- <br />bar or beam from falling in the event one or more of the <br />supporting legs are accidentally dislodged. <br />8. Long lived entries and bleeder entry systems shall have <br />additional support, i.e., closer roof bolting pattern, <br />longer rooF bolts, cribs, timbers, crossbars, etc.; as <br />roof conditions warrant. <br />9. When mining approaches within 156 feet of outcrops, <br />known Faults, burn areas or when adverse roof, rib, or <br />face conditions are encountered, effective control such <br />as scaling, additional support such as roof oc rib <br />bolts, steel mesh, or timbers shall be utilized to sup- <br />• port or otherwise control and protect persons from haz- <br />ards. <br />5 <br /> <br />
