GENERAL GUIDELINES 1. Two safety jacks shall be kept readily available on each operating roof bolter for use when the automated support system becomes unworkable or does not supply adequate protection Eor the roof bolter operator. 2. No one will be allowed beyond the last row of permanent support~on side opposite the controls of the roof bolt- er. No one shall proceed beyond the last row of perma- nent support to extend face ventilation devices. • 3. All out-of-date or damaged resin cartridges shall be removed from the underground areas of the mine. 9. When an area of unsupported roof exists that may be accessed by two or more entrances, the unsupported area at each of these entrances shall be posted with a read- ily visible warning, oc a physical barrier shall be installed to impede travel beyond permanent support. 5. When work, other than examinations as mentioned in Sub- part D 30 CE[i, is being performed inby an opening or unsupported roof the entrance of the opening shall be supported, with at least one row of bolts, posts, or safety jacks on not more than five foot centers across the opening. Roof bolts shall be installed in the opening. Posts or safety jacks shall not be installed in the opening, but installed in the intersection under permanently supported top. 6. To obtain access to an inoperable continuous miner under unsupported roof in order to perform mechanical or elec- trical repair, roof supports shall be set until the area between the last row of permanent roof support and the work area of the continuous miner has been supported.
