4-33
4.5 VEGETATION ASSESSMENT
• This report presents, discusses, and summarizes data on vegetation
types proposed to be affected by mining related activities planned
for areas within a permit revision to the Munger Canyon permit
(C-020-81). Specifically, a facilities complex would be built
- at the mouth of Munger Canyon and require additional areas out-
side the existing permit boundary. A refuse area is proposed
for a site approximately one mile south of the mouth of Munger
Canyon and would be connected to the central development by a
service road. Additionally, a coal conveyor transport system
would extend south from the McClane Canyon Mine (Permit No. C-004-
81) to the proposed facilities site at Dlunger Canyon.
These proposed developments would affect some acreage of six
vegetation types within the area of the permit revision. Th~~
planned refuse disposal facility would affect four vegetation
types. They include four shrublands: Shadscale Cheatgrass,
Shadscale Wildrye, and small areas of Gardner 3altbush and Juni-
• per Woodland. The first two vegetation types per Colorado Mined
Land Reclamation (CMLR) direction were quantitatively sampled
for vegetation cover, production, and woody plant density during
the 1981 growing season. A premising inventory approach was used
to establish standards for revegetation success. The latter two
vegetation types, Gapdrier Saltbush and Juniper Woodland, per
CMLR direction were qualita~:ively de5¢ribe~ from limited quanti-
tative data on cover and density.
-The proposed central facilities would affect Greasewood Shrublands
and Agricultural area S. These two latter vegetation types would
be disturbed both within the permit revision area as well as within
the area described in the existing Munger Canyon permit. Likewise,
small areas of Big Sagebrush Shrubland, Juniper Woodland, and
Shadscale Shrubland vegetation types within the Munger Canyon
permit area would be potentially affected. The major disturbance
within the Munger Canyon permit area is for existing disturbed
. sites.
