4-32
The potential productivity for native forage for the soils
within the addendum area range from low to good. Soils with
low productivity include the soils in the Salt Flats and Clayey
Salt Desert range sites (Billings, Chipeta, and Uffens).
Soils with good potential productivity of native forage include
the soils in the Foothills Swale and Rolling Loam range sites
(Glendive, Havre, Nihill, and Rivra).
Some soils are also suited for other uses, such as woodland,
wildlife habitat, and watershed. Some soils on the mesa tops
and side slopes of mesas have pinion-juniper community. Few
soils are suited (good to fair) for use as wildlife habitat.
They are the Glendive and Havre (SCS Soil Interpretation Records).
The soils on the nearly level to gently sloping flood plains
and valley bottoms provide an outlet for drainage of other soils.
•
