~ks and Gesso, LLC
Mining will take place using scrapers and front end loaders. Excavated material
will be loaded directly into haul trucks for transport from the site; however, a field
conveyor system may be used to convey material to the processing area.
Settled fines from dewatering and washing and clay material ripped from
claystone bedrock will be used as backfill. Slope creation and clay lining will
begin after excavation has reached the limit of mining along the property's
eastern boundary. Clay lining of the slopes to isolate the reservoir from
surrounding ground water will follow shortly thereafter.
Water Diversions and Imaoundments
Before beginning mining activity, water that has accumulated in the historic mine
will be discharged. Thereafter, surface runoff and accumulating ground water will
be collected in the southwest corner of the site, clarified, and discharged to the
Ditch. Shallow trenches will be excavated, if necessary, to enhance de-watering
operations. A CPDES discharge permit and formal agreement from the ditch
company will be obtained prior to any discharge from the mine site. The
Applicant will be prepared to recycle clarified water from dewatering to aggregate
washing operations, if necessary. As creation of slopes and clay lining proceeds
around the perimeter of the excavated area, inflow of groundwater will decrease.
Aggregate washing operations will be separate from mine dewatering activity.
There will be no discharge from washing operations. Wash water settling ponds
will be located along the excavated area's northern boundary, as shown by the
accompanying Mine Plan Map. Make up water will be available via a hydrant
permit issued by the South Adams County Water and Sanitation District and can
be supplemented from the mine dewatering operation.
Sand and Gravel Resources To Be Recovered
124"' Estates -Regular 112 Application 01029.WD
124`" Estates Partners g August 2001
